Woman sitting on "Plymouth" railway line causes delays to trains - 13 June 2014

"A TRAIN driver had to slam on his brakes when a woman was seen sitting on a railway sleeper on the Plymouth to London Paddington line.

The lady, who was described as being in a distressed state, was removed by British Transport Police.

Officers were called to a stretch of line at Westcott Junction, between Tiverton Parkway and Taunton, just after 1pm yesterday.

A train travelling east between the two stations was brought to a halt by the driver before it hit the woman, who was said to be in a "distressed state".

Delays of around 15 minutes were caused to some services, a Network rail spokesman said."

Not entirely sure where this actually is, and a quick look at RTT^» proves inconclusive.
Any suggestions?

PS: Plymouth in the title is a little misleading!

Seems a driver spotted the woman "near the line" at a foot crossing near Wellington.

As is routine, following trains were cautioned until BTP^▸ could get there. The driver of one of those trains spotted the woman sitting by the line and stopped. He then sat with her until the police arrived. Train was delayed nearly 45 minutes as a result.

Talk of slamming on brakes is somewhat wide of the mark.

Ah - the community way of picking up the person and passing him/her to a paramedic on board is so much quicker Grin

... 15th May, Holt Junction (which if it were re-opened should be called Holt Halt!)
