Sad news tonight...currently stationary on 1L92 waiting for lines to clear. Not the end of the world for us but as always my thoughts go out to those affected by this and the team who has to put things right.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

I'm not sure if there was more than one incident of this type last night in the Reading-Paddington stretch but chaos followed at Reading. The PA▸ (Public Address (broadcast loudspeaker announcements) or Passenger Assist (railway staff providing physical assistance to passengers with mobility issues), depending on context) announcer did a Stirling job of trying to keep us informed but with so many trains and train crew out of place it was a difficult job. I was due to get home about 1030 and finally arrived about 0030...

I think I do ... into Melksham on the last train last night (from Manchester); back out on the first train this morning towards Taunton ... expect to be tired by end of day.
