Gatwick is easier because I could use the lift but normally ignore the signs telling me not to put my suitcase on the escalator.
Similar to the person who ignored them in front of me, their suitcase slipped and then crashed into me. I ended up with a badly bruised and cut leg and a cracked phone screen. More than a year on, I still have the scars. Not suggesting you were not in total control but, understandably, I have rather strong views on the subject!
Sorry to hear that BobM. I have seen people on escalators not really in control of their luggage. I place my light fabric suitcase on the step above me and hold it steadily. If it were to fall it would hit me. It's not really a heavy case because as a man I don't need lots of clothes, shoes, hair dryers, curling tongs, irons, more shoes etc. when I go away.
