Another passenger / rail interest community group that's somehow missed our radar so far.

The Stephenson Locomotive Society (SLS) is "a Society that will give you in depth coverage of matters relating to locomotives and railway operation both old and new. The SLS is not just about steam locomotives and the study of our past but encompasses modern traction too. The SLS is a society with a hundred year history but is also looking forward" ... http://www.stephensonloco.org.uk/index.htm

Do we have any SLS members / connections on the Coffee Shop?

Got 'Steam Around Bristol' photo book which includes a shot of a pannier tank on a SLS special alongside Hotwells Road en route to Canons March.

I think it was another SLS special that I had my two sightings of an (original) GWR (Great Western Railway) 3-car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) on a special which ran from Cardiff to Cardiff via the Rhubarb Curve, North Somerset line (Pensford, Clutton, Radstock, Mells) to Frome then The Strawberry Line (Witham, Shepton Mallet, Cheddar, Axbridge, Congresbury, Yatton). The special then took the western curve at Bristol West to traverse the Portishead Line returning to TM (Train Manager, or Ticket Machine, or Temple Meads (Bristol), depending on context) and then finally travelling the Severn Beach Line and the Henbury Loop to Filton Junction where it reversed back to Cardiff. Both my observations were from the Filton Junction Signal Box where my school chums father was a signalman there and which I spent many hours there 'train spotting'.

Grahame, another organisation you might like to investigate is the LCGB, Locomotive Club Of Great Britain.

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
