Great Western Railway disruption after tree falls onto tracks, causing damage to train
There are long delays due to the incident

There is disruption on the rail network today (December 28) after a tree fell onto the tracks near Bath.

Great Western Railway (GWR (Great Western Railway)) services have been delayed after the incident between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads at around 7.30pm.

A spokesman for GWR has confirmed the tree has damaged a train, and added that long delays are expected.

The spokesman said: "A tree has fallen over the railway between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads - causing damage to one train, and blocking both rail lines.

"Network Rail is on-site assessing the tree. It is balancing 12 foot above the track on fencing.

"This will require some time to remove."

The spokesman added: "Services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

"Disruption is expected until 9.45pm.

"Some services may be diverted, and Bristol-London trains will run non-stop between Bristol and Swindon - not calling at Bath Spa and Chippenham.

"We will run some additional train services between Bath and Swindon, but this is only where possible

Noting the comment "but only where this is possible".   Hmm ....

No.  17:30 Warminster to Great Malvern and the 18:02 Bristol Parkway to Portsmouth Harbour.

And a couple of diagrams shortformed today ... example service changes:

Quote
08:19 Romsey to Portsmouth Harbour due 09:26
Facilities on the 08:19 Romsey to Portsmouth Harbour due 09:26.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 5.

12:49 Bristol Parkway to Portsmouth Harbour due 15:51
Facilities on the 12:49 Bristol Parkway to Portsmouth Harbour due 15:51.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 3.
