Britain's 7 most scenic rail journeys
From
Wanderlust - "Britain's 7 most scenic rail journeys" ... at No. 2 is "Settle to Carlisle, Yorkshire Dales National Park". Fair enough ... but why list " Caledonian Sleeper, London to Scotland" and "Cornwall Sleeper, London Paddington to Penzance" - scenic journeys you can miss if you're fast asleep with window blinds down.
I've had the 'pleasure' of the Caledonian to Fort William during the week of the longest day on a couple of occasions now and also booked for same in 2021. I make sure I'm tucked up in bed as it leaves Euston and the alarm set for 4.30am. I am in the lounge before departure from Edinburgh, so I concur with the description. However, I agree with you if doing the journey at this time of year (December) whenn it would be in darkness for almost the entire journey.
I put 'pleasure' in quotes because - whilst the view out of the window was spectacular, the service inside the train was not quite so!
