Last night's 22:48 from London Paddington to Swansea came to a rapid halt around two o'clock this morning after hitting "a large tree" shortly after leaving Neath.  It was one of several trees which had fallen in the area with others ending up lying across the roof of the train.

No serious injuries reported but it took a while to free the IET (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) and clear the line with the train eventually reaching Swansea just after 6.30am.

Several early morning services to London were cancelled as a result.

In case you're wondering why so many trees fell over when there wasn't any wind to speak of, this was a landslip with a higher than usual tree content.

Where was Roberta with her red petticoat when we need her?

When I last spoke to her (about FGW (First Great Western) and trains, of course), she was on the set of War Horse in final rehearsals.
