Sustrans has announced the replacement for founder John Grimshaw as the organisation's boss (link below.)

Malcolm Shepherd, who is currently Sustrans' operations director, will succeed Mr Grimshaw as the group's chief executive officer.

Whilst SUSTRANS is probably a good idea. However, I am very unhappy about the fact that when they take over an old railway route, they can prevent any reinstatement of the line without provision of a parallel cycle route. This has caused problems with some preserved railways and prevented their expansion or made the reinstatement of the route very much more expensive.

It would also prevent for instance the use of the Midland route from Bristol to Bath as a double track railway (light or heavy).
