I'm writing at http://grahamellis.uk/blog941.html
linking to pages like http://gwr.passenger.chat/foss1.html which I'll be promoting

Quote
Are you around Melksham in August? Looking for some days out with the children? The "Freedom of Severn and Solent" railway ticket lets you take 3 days in 7, or 8 days in 15, travelling as far as Portsmouth, Cardiff, Worcester, Tiverton, and Axminster - seaside at Poole, Bournemouth, Weymouth and Weston-super-mare - all at a price of £12.20 per person per day. And there's a third off that for railcard holders, and children are half price. You can get "Friends and Family" discounts too.

Please let me know of any errors - note I still need to be adding a one-liner about many of the places

The Freedom of Severn and Solent ticket remains a wonderful way to have a staycation.  I've update the "days out" page I posted last year at http://www.passenger.chat/foss.html to report on the 2024 prices with a different suggestion each day.

Suggestions on the page ...
Tiverton Parkway
Severn Beach
Sherborne
Oldfield Park
Dorchester West
Salisbury
Southampton Central
Stroud
Bournemouth
Swindon (Wilts)
Mottisfont & Dunbridge
Weymouth
Clifton Down
Portsmouth Harbour
Cardiff Central
Axminster
Brockenhurst
Frome
Warminster
Weston-Super-Mare
Bristol Temple Meads
Cheltenham Spa
Poole
Romsey
Worcester Foregate Street
Yeovil Pen Mill
Gloucester
Great Malvern
Lymington Pier
Taunton
Hamble

Missing from that list is Melksham.   It's missing because this is a page looking to remind people they can make day trips to all the places above from Melksham - buying the trips in bundles of 3 or 8 for as little as £15 pounds a day, or £10 for railcard holders.

I would like to add Yatton to that list.

Strawberry Line cafe at the station itself, cycle hire, footpath / cycleway to Congresbury along the old trackbed, then more footpath / cycleway to Axbridge (through Shute Shelve Tunnel) and Cheddar.  That can be a day out in itself, with the many scenic diversions along that route.  Grin

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Brockenhurst to Lymington Town was busy on Saturday for the Lymington Seafood Festival. Passed myself, but cycled round to Keyhave instead, and the good lady raided the Saturday street market.
