I was at Patchway and the station is classed as "A",it has to ticket machine.

So what would a station like Parson Street be classed as,because it does have a ticket machine?

I thought the classification was to do with accessibility, not whether a TVM^▸ (Ticket Vending Machine) was present?

I presume that Bedminster is classed as an "A"

I've never seen a list of stations with their codes - but you can find them individually on National Rail station guides

I think we may be talking about a different category scheme. Patchway would never be an 'A' in that scheme above. More likely an 'F'

An F1, in fact. I've just Googled for Patchway class A and it's come up with Southerneastern (?), saying:

Step free category A station. This station has step free access to all platforms. In the interests of safety and security, access to the lifts are controlled remotely. Please allow additional time to catch your train to allow the operator to call the lift on your behalf.

"Step-free" is more specific than "accessibility". And there is a connection between these two and the DfT^» (Department for Transport - about) station classifications. If, for example, you look at the NR^» (Network Rail - home page) Station Design Guidance design manual NR/GN/CIV^▸ (International Convention for the transportation of Passengers (lit. Convention Internationale pour le transport des Voyageurs))/100/02, at the back is a table showing which facilities (PRM^▸ (Persons with Reduced Mobility) and other) are mandatory/highly desirable/desirable/optional for each what they call - confusingly - "station categories classification" .
