A vague answer but, yes, somewhere around Cardiff is a reasonable and general starter. I will be interested to see how our members do with some of the more outcomes of an "Explore Cardiff and The Valleys day ranger" |

This is not a traditional quiz ...no Melksham, no Taunton in the pictures and no mention of through trains from Bradford-on-Avon and Trowbridge to London, nor the pathetic service at Pilning. Whilst the lack of stations in the picture quiz is light hearted, the failure to provide those services even in a sparse form is far from light hearted.
I spent yesterday visiting lines and places I haven't been before, and saw some examples of good practise that had me asking "why can't we do that", came across some lovely places and some sad stuff too. Even the diddiest little lines over there seem to have a better service ...

Could that be down to public ownership? To the left of Offa's Dyke 'subsidy' is not a dirty word. Social mobility is being promoted. There's investment in rolling stock and stations. New and more frequent services have been, or are being, introduced. Similar things are happening in Scotland too. Meanwhile, the hapless bunch of twonks on the government benches in Westminster are doing their damnedest to ruin public transport in England. |

It is very unevenly distributed. London and the south east do quite well per capita. Here in the west/south west we don't do so well. The same goes for other regions in England. Wales & Scotland have increased their per capita spend on public transport thanks to their devolved powers. England, outside the M25, is being left behind thanks to Tory ideology, along with dithering over reform. Scotland and the South West region of England have similar population sizes. Scotland spending on transport is 2.5 times more, per capita, than that spent in the South West. I support increased spending on public transport in England. If that means an increase in taxation then I'm happy with that. |
