The BBC» Rail firms Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry have been awarded new contract renewals, the Department for Transport has announced.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper said Avanti West Coast was "back on track" after struggling with reliability.
The proportion of its trains cancelled had been cut to "as low as 1.1% over the past year", the department said.
However, figures show the equivalent of 6.8% of CrossCountry services were cancelled between April and June.
My local comparison is (always!) with Melksham where the cancellation rate is 6% over the last six months, and 9% over the past 12 week, with the rail industry pretending that cancellation made well ahead because of industrial action aren't cancellations at all.
