Cancellations to services between Castle Cary and Weymouth

Due to vandalism at a station at Thornford fewer trains are able to run. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Train services between Castle Cary and Weymouth will be cancelled or revised. Thornford will not be served.

Customer Advice

Apologies for the disruption to your journey today.

Due to damage to the station access, at this time Thornford station is closed and trains are not stopping there.

As an alternative, passengers may wish to use Yetminster station which is 1.5 miles away. There is a help-point available at Yetminster station.

If that is not possible for any reason, passengers are advised to travel to Yeovil Pen Mill station and seek assistance from station staff for onwards transport.

You have to wonder what staff are available at Pen Mill to assist any customers after half six in the evening

You also have to wonder under what circumstances someone stranded at Thornford could not make it to Yetminster, but could make it to Pen Mill.  OK perhaps for arriving passengers - does anyone ever get on at Thornford?

I would (personally) advise anyone who wishes to get off at Thornford to have a chat with the train managers who should be able to talk to control and arrange onward road transport from Yetminster or Yeovil Pen Mill - but that's just me sitting in an armchair in Reykjavik - I'm sure that the staff on the ground and at JourneyCheck know better.
