Hope this may be of use to all members as its doors open weeks.

I have centered the events on fifty miles from Chippenham

Some little gems on that list.  I've a busy few days mid September but I might be able to squeeze something in.

Also, if I may, a little mention a little further afield for the Kingsbridge vintage bus running day on the 21st September.  The rail related aspect is that one of the various routes provides a regular service to and from the former Loddiswell Station which will be open for the day serving refreshments on the platform with proceeds going to charity.
Loddiswell Station was on the South Brent to Kingsbridge line.
The buses are free to ride on, the optional bus program with all of the routes and approximate timetables usually cost about a fiver from the Kingsbridge tourist information office next to where the buses run from at the bus station.

Seeing that I plugged the event a few days back.... here's a few pictures of the Kingsbridge Vintage Bus Running Day 2024, including open day at Loddiswell Station.

Thanks for posting that picture, johnneyw.  Wink

Many years ago, I visited an aunt in Lydford, and she suggested that we drive over to Loddiswell station, as there was some sort of social event happening there.

I remember it fondly as a brilliant day out: there was some picnic catering available on the erstwhile platform, but most of the time we were all playing boules down on the old trackbed.  Grin

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
