Couple of interesting interviews in Railnews with Mark Hopwood and Dave Ward about improved performance on FGW (First Great Western) services, at

Great Western performance has improved for the same reason Tottenham Hotspur climbed from the Premiership^s relegation zone, according to Dave Ward, Network Rail^s Western route director.

^When Harry Redknapp went to Spurs, he couldn^t clear out all the players. He said he didn^t want to. It was the same when I came to Western. It^s about a change in leadership style and how we do things.

Interestingly, Tottenham Hotspur are now back in the bottom three, and have scored just seven goals in 10 home league games.

But then I am a Portsmouth fan....

FGW (First Great Western) links to Bristol, Cardiff, Swansea and Plymouth will come in handy next season then! Wink

Cheesy

Unfortunately I see FGW as more Portsmouth than Spurs. A top manager (Andrew Haines = Harry Redknapp) has left to be replaced by one of his assistants (Mark Hopwood = Tony Adams), the best assets are past their prime (HSTs (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) = David James, Peter Crouch, Sol Campbell, Kanu) and replacing them is difficult (no spare railway stock, Pompey lacking clout in the transfer market) and ridiculously expensive (train leasing charges, Premiership wages....).  Grin

And their finest moment in recent years was in May 08 (reinstatement of 3 car Wessex service, FA Cup).

And the players always sent off and considered the worst assets = Class 143 or 142 Cheesy
