Made an awful mistake - went to Youtube looking for Valenta engine sounds and spent the whole evening  looking at train videos - it's just toooooo addictive.
One I found was a bit useful for us passengers as it explains a bit about what goes on in the cab and at signal boxes.

It's in three parts

Very interesting.  However...One S Sixteen...No way!... always One S One Six.   (Or Two U Nine Nine etc etc). Too much margin for lack of clarity otherwise.

Sorry if it's caused any confusion, Btline, but this topic does seem to have ranged fairly widely from correct use of the phonetic alphabet to Morse code* - and TerminalJunkie's previous post was just a little 'cheeky', possibly?  Grin

* See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_code for details of the code, by the way.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
