Thanks for a rather thought-provoking first post, caliwag - and welcome to the Coffee Shop forum!

I'm not sure that particular story has been referred to here previously - but it does rather bear out the concerns of SDA, for example, over the apparent departure of all common sense from some of those bidding a fond farewell on a railway platform?

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

My original post was a little on the ' Roll Eyes' side, but caliwag has certainly shown the real danger.  There are some TM▸ (Train Manager, or Ticket Machine, or Temple Meads (Bristol), depending on context)'s who refuse to accept a 'tip' until everyone is clear of the train - I have had to run the near full length of a HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) to get people back before, and once you have told them to get back, they just return to the edge again.

Even our humble units encounter these problems.  We were trained not to dispatch until all bystanders are clear, but as SDA says, they do have a habit of creeping back again.

Only the other day, I conveyed a couple of 'kissers' from Kemble to Swindon.  They had boarded the train to see off a friend and despite whistles and hustle alarm, had not alighted again.  I did sell them day returns though. Grin
