Refund question

I^ve had a rummage about here but cannot find a similar question.

Travelling back from Portsmouth SWMBO^▸ realised that she had left the return portion of her Trowbridge ticket at a friends house and had to pay the full single fare on the train. Roll Eyes

As we can get hold of the unused ticket what are the refund options, I suspect it will just be on the unused portion of the return iaw the NRCC, and in the FAQ^▸ section of FGW^▸ web concerning refunds.

An expensive lesson learnt if at the end of the day it isn^t worth the hassle.

If I remember rightly (and I'm expecting to probably be corrected) you can obtain a refund for the unused portion of off peak and anytime tickets, though I think this is the difference between the appropriate single fare and the corresponding return fare. Not much use if you're travelling on an off-peak return priced at 10p more than the single.
In any event you have to apply for the refund no later than 28 days after the expiry of the tickets validity and you may be required to pay a 'reasonable administration charge' (not exceeding ^10).

The following passage is from National Rail Enquiries and is the same for Anytime and Off-Peak, both day and period tickets:

Refunds
Your ticket is refundable.

If you decide not to use your ticket to make all or part of your intended journey then you can get a refund by returning your unused ticket to the ticket office or place of purchase (for tickets bought via websites, telesales or travel agents) within 28 days of the ticket expiry date. You may be required to pay an administration fee.

The refund amount will normally take into account any use you have made of the ticket and in some circumstances no refund will be paid.

So surely I could claim that any unstamped tickets haven't been used?

I have a rather pristine Paignton - Newquay in my hand. ^8.25 please!

Would that be a CDR^▸ with R/C discount? Return it by all means. Less ^10 admin means you owe the TOC^▸ ^1.75!! Go for it Grin
