Oh dear oh dear! I do hope that was a tongue-in-cheek post?

Probably just an error. I wouldn't put much credence on a map which also shows that the wires are already in place as far as Maidenhead, would you?

According to the BR▸ (British Rail(ways)) Modernisation plan, it was completed in 1980.

I would argue that the wires are to Maidenhead as Xrail is under construction.

BUT

They've also shown wires to Bromsgrove! Now that is one of those plans that gets put back a year each year (in those riveting NR» (Network Rail - home page) reports).

No wires are up, and no physical work at all has started on the GWML▸ (Great Western Main Line) for Crossrail yet. Stop being silly!  Wink

This error was picked up by the Railway Eye several days ago:

That's all it is, an error on the map.

The question really is why did ATOC» (Association of Train Operating Companies see - here) not ensure they published the right map?

If they don't understand what lines might be electrified then I would suggest they disband.

I've come to the conclusion that collectively "Cut and Paste" has stopped us "thinking"

What do you mean Xrail hasn't started? I believe work is well under way at several locations, notably Isle of Dogs/Canary Wharf.

Nothing on the main line though. The only evidence on the GWML▸ (Great Western Main Line) is the empty and fenced off depot at Old Oak Common. 

The project hasn't got to the point where the cost of cancelling it would be too much of an embarrassment (think Glasgow Airport Rail Link for an example of this), though I believe the project team are working as hard as possible to get as many contracts as possible signed and work underway before the General Election.

I know a few people who are in the NR» (Network Rail - home page) Xrail project team, they are working hard to get contracts in place one key one is with National Grid which will be in the form of a binding max and min demand tariff basically mega expensive to break
