Fare Cuts

FGW^▸ have announced peak fare cuts in the Bristol area from Sunday. Both standard day returns and season tickets appear to be involved. In the case of Nailsea to Bristol the SDR comes down 20p to ^3.60, and the season from ^707 (I believe) to ^668.

Now, call me a cynic, but there must be something driving this. Maybe the fare increases last Jan (7% - 8%) were in excess of what was allowed under the RPI^▸ related formula? I did wonder at the time.

Anyway, here's to a bit of good news for once.

Yes I agree John some good news at last from FGW^▸ with regards to fares. Still makes Bath-Bristol one of the most expensive of fares for what is only a 12 mile journey but any cut in rail fares is good news to passengers travelling to and from Bristol in the morning peak.

Yate commuters are also to benefit from the fare price cuts.

or as a commuter said to me. "Its probably a sop to apologise for the crap service provided since last December on unreliable dirty trains with insufficient staff to run them. Wait till next Januarys fare increase, they'll claw most of this back, if not a little bit more."

I don't know the actual reason, but my theory is something to do with the fact FGW^▸ has a different Fares and Pricing Manager since the last fare change.
