I believe there is a First Class Lounge at Temple Meads on Platform 11 (?).

Is it staffed or is everything self-service?  What sort of complementaries are available?

I'm trying to decide whether to book First Class or pleb class for an upcoming trip and need to work out whether it will be good value or not.  I don't normally get the choice of First Class as I travel mainly to Portsmouth.

No, its closed. Its far easier just sitting on the (usually) waiting London Paddington HSTs (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) in platform 13/15

Thanks.  I wondered why there is no mention on the FGW (First Great Western) website.  Looks like my extra dosh will be spent in Bonapartes instead of on First Class travel (I'm not going too far anyway)!

Closed in Easter 2009 Sad

However the First Class Lounges at Cardiff Central and London remained open AFAIK ('as far as I know')

I'd agree with D_M, The London bound trains normally accept pax (passengers) around 15 - 20 minutes before they are due to leave, in most cases the Buffet opens early too.
