I was looking o FGW (First Great Western) website and found this useful service incident:
09:03 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads due 10:53
This train has been reinstated. It will no longer call at: London Paddington, Reading, Didcot Parkway, Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads.

Yea, I noticed that too, perhaps its been re-instated to run as a 5Cxx (ecs working) and not as a 1Cxx to get the set to Bristol for the next working.

If it was going to be ECS (Empty Coaching Stock) why would they tell people it was running as it could cause confusion with people turning up to get the train for it to be cancelled.

When I saw the incident which was the subject of your post I thought it was strange as the stations that the service was supposedly not calling at were all but two of the stations timetabled for this service to serve, those two stations being Chippenham and Bath. Knowing that there was some overnight engineering work on the Bath line I assumed that the service was not calling at these stations today. It does seem to be quirky that both the origin and destination station of this service were shown as not being served, confusing all round.
