Exeter to Exmouth line 8/11/10

What on earth was going on yesterday? I caught the 1722 train from Exeter Central-it did not make it to Exmouth until 1817.
Someone mentioned 'adverse weather conditions'. It was raining...

One of the worse days for the effect of leaves I have seen. One train from Penzance counld not make it up the bank out of Totnes. The next one had to terminate at Exeter St Davids because of bad wheel flats caused by slipping.

Another train going to Penzance slipped to a stand on departing Totnes and took 30 minutes to get going again. All trains then ran non stop through Totnes for a couple of hours.

There were also similar problems on the Exmouth branch. The oil residues from crushed leaves combined with a bit of rain means the train cannot get any grip on the rail and just moves along at about 10 - 15 mph.

The Exmouth line was as bad for poor rail head conditions on Monday evening as I have ever experienced.

Between Digby and Lympstone the rails were black, when you opened the power controller the wheels would spin to no effect, when you touched the brake the wheels locked-up. But the staff did a professional job, and got you home safely.
