Getting refunds for advance tickets where the journey went a bit wrong

Am I unable to claim a refund on an advance ticket where the journey took 2 hours longer than the stipulated journey or am I entitled to some recompense?

Assuming the journey was with FGW^▸ , you're entitled to a full refund of the fare as travel vouchers, as long as the delay was "within the control of the railway industry" (so not including things like weather, trespass, suicides etc). Although advance tickets aren't refundable (so you won't get your cash back once you've bought them if you decide not to use them) your entitlement to delay compensation is the same as for any other ticket type.

Again, assuming it was FGW then you need to post your tickets either with a FGW complaint form or a covering letter detailing what happened to:

Customer Services Team
First Great Western
Freepost SWB40576
Plymouth
PL4 6ZZ

Goes without saying, but keep a copy of the tickets just in case something goes astray in the post.
