Replacement bus service running on First Great Western between Truro and Falmouth Docks due to animals on the line at Penryn. Falmouth Branch line is currently suspended due to staff having found a deceased cow but too big for them to move. 14 other cows on embankment in the vicinity. Staff searching for farmer whilst additional staff are called out

Line incident

Line problem between Truro and Falmouth Docks.
Train services are being disrupted due to animals on the line between Truro and Falmouth Docks. Short notice cancellations can be expected.
An hourly rail shuttle service is now in operation between Penryn and Falmouth Docks in both directions. Replacement road transport will operate between Truro and Penryn.

I was on the first train from Falmouth after the incident.  We were waiting to cross at Penryn.  The train which hit the cow passed us and proceeded to Falmouth. Eventually it came back and attached to the rear of our train so they could run an hourly shuttle between Penryn and Falmouth with buses onward to Truro.

By this time the remaining cows had reached the end of the platform at Truro. I have a couple of photos I will try to upload later but still on a train at the moment.

Would hitting a cow not cause some damage to the train, a big heavy lump which they are!
also the cows reaching Truro is some walk for a cow from where the incident apparently happened

To be fair I said I was at Penryn waiting for the trains to cross.  The incident happened just the Truro side of Penryn station.  There was some discussion among the staff on our train about possible damage to the other unit but it did proceed past us to Falmouth.

I am not sure what time the replacement buses arrived.  After an hour I caught a Western Greyhound services which was passing the station to Truro.

maybe re-read what you wrote before commenting making me look like i'd not read what you wrote. you quite clearly wrote the following

My apologies - was posting from my phone - where you only get two or three lines at a time.  I meant the Truro end of the platform at Penryn - but of course it doesnt say that. No offence intended.

In all serious that was part of the problem.  The surviving cows didn't want to leave their striken colleague.
