From Swindon Borough Council, last Thursday:

Right now, you shouldn’t be sharing a vehicle with people outside your household or support bubble but if do, you need to make sure you:

* Cover your face
* Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds
* Keep the windows open
* Sit as far away from people outside your household as possible
* Clean the car after every journey
* Car share with the same small group only.

Swindon is something of a special case at present due to the outbreak there.

I was debating this yesterday with two old mates with whom I usually meet up each year around now. Normally I would drive across Reading to the house of one and then be chauffeured across to Greatstone for a meal out and a walk or a ride on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway.

Dave (my "driver") cited the same guidance that you did, with the addition of masks being needed to be worn. Neither of us was keen on that for 2.5 hours in either direction. Then John proposed that we go out to a fish restaurant in Hythe, which reinforced my doubts that the day out was not a good idea. We're all over 70.

I explained to them that my mindset is still that of Lockdown and that at the best of times I'd noticed unhygienic practices by restaurant staff and wasn't confident about how conscientious some were being at the moment. (There's something about this in today's Daily Telegraph.)
