Maybe history but I haven't met any personnel from that organisation to my knowledge, so definitely not the latter

A meeting of the group has popped up for 18th May, for Westbury. I am checking back on details (time and guest charge) and will add it here if the answers are appropriate

Chris - I suspect you have met at least one of their patrons with Railfuture.

I'm not sure that's what she is saying. Despite everything, some jobs can still be perceived as being for a particular gender, and adverts on the website will broadly only be looked at by people who already think it's a job for them unless they are drawn there by wider publicity,

Wider publicity such as the “overpaid” label is generally enough to draw people in!

It's perhaps a shame the article didn't go into more detail of the methods they use, but it may start with simple things like not using a photo of a white middle-aged bloke on the job adverts.

That’s a fair comment.

Further into the process it would be good for instance to be able to reassure female applicants that the facilities at a loo break location are now more than just a urinal!

At some locations they’re even cleaned now!  Now there’s proper progress

Most plans for a Bristol and Bath area 'metro' have been based on the heavy rail network (including disused parts). The 'Future4West' plan is unusual in that it seems to be based on different corridors, starting as it does with the premise that it is not possible to expand capacity along existing rail corridors. This premise rules out tram-trains, which is in my view a huge mistake.

Most other plans, such as the enroute post, ATA's plans from the 1980's and Bristol Rail Campaign's 'Plan for Rail' use the heavy rail network as a basis - though things that might have seemed possible in the 80's (like using the old Midland Main Line) clearly aren't possible now!

It annoys me to read these articles and see statements like “ Zoey Hudson, head of talent, diversity and inclusion at Southern railway, said recruitment methods had changed to enable a wider range of people to apply for jobs”.

TOC (Train Operating Company)’s can solely advertise a role on their websites and attract thousands of applications, adverts should not be targeted at specific groups, you’re then making it all a box ticking exercise rather than just selecting the best people for the job.  It’s 2024, surely we all know that there’s no gender specific job roles anymore.
If you’re in a minority group and you’re successfully selected for a job, I’d want to have the satisfaction I got the job because of my abilities not because of who I am.  It’s taking away someone’s sense of achievement.  Just my opinion!

I'm not sure that's what she is saying. Despite everything, some jobs can still be perceived as being for a particular gender, and adverts on the website will broadly only be looked at by people who already think it's a job for them unless they are drawn there by wider publicity, which might indeed be targeted at people who wouldn't initially have thought of it as a job for them. It's perhaps a shame the article didn't go into more detail of the methods they use, but it may start with simple things like not using a photo of a white middle-aged bloke on the job adverts. Further into the process it would be good for instance to be able to reassure female applicants that the facilities at a loo break location are now more than just a urinal!

An apprentice transport planner and volunteer analyst for Enroute has come up with an alternative suggestion for a Bristol mass transit scheme that requires much less tunneling and disruption than current proposals do.
It's more than just another crayonista's evening in the pub bright idea but doesn't pretend to be the finished article either.....will anyone pick it up though?

Weren't the original plans for the Metro system in Bristol based on the same thing?
But got scaled back from an actual metro system to buses being used on less routes

I have done a few of these, although former railway lines and canals tend to be my preferred routes. My knees were never keen on hills and definitely not nowadays.

Did the Blackwater Valley last year, absolute swamp although probably worse for the youngsters doing their Duke of Edinburgh's. Tends to be spoilt by the roar of the adjacent dual carriageway.
