Hello coffee shop people, as my name suggests I live in Bedminster, and have done for nearly 30 years. My local station is Parson Street -- I'm not a regular commuter but I use trains on average around 10 times a month for business and leisure trips. I'm not a rail expert but I'm interested in transport issues generally, and as I've chosen not to own a car I've a great deal of experience about other modes of transport. The most enjoyable and reliable is walking, and as many of you will be aware, all other ways of getting around the Bristol area are problematical.

The best thing around here in recent years has been the dramatic improvement in the number of trains at Bedminster and Parson St, although due to poor connections my long distance journeys still often start and finish at Temple Meads rather than my local station. I'm delighted at the improvements on the Severn Beach line, but for me personally it would be nice to be able to get there from here.... amazingly, the quickest way to get to Avonmouth by public transport is to start with a 40 minute walk to Clifton Down station!

So I won't be posting a lot on here, I've been lurking for a while though and I expect I'll occasionally have something useful to chip in. It's an excellent forum and it's great to know that FGW (First Great Western) are interested in the views of the passengers on here.

A warm welcome to the forum, bemmy. I'm a member of Friends Of Suburban Bristol Railways, so I take a great interest in the routes you describe.

For those who havent been to Bedminster or Parson Street, photos can be found below :
