What a pity that it's just for that evening. I would have liked to have had a look at that but will be in the Peak District then. Surely just a bit more time for people to attend would not be unreasonable?
I think it's been publicised for about a month. "It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'". - Douglas AdamsYes, we have only just added it to the forum calendar ... any member can add and please do! I'll try to attend and I presume DR, well known to Grahame will too, I'll try and contact him in the meantime.

Used Metrobus to get into Centre yesterday and Today (17 & 18/09/28). Yesterday was also the start of the U3 service from the Centre to UWE only. Apparently students have been told to use the m3 as the quickest route between Bristol Centre and the campus. Students were therefore sitting and the Centre stop oblivious of the nice newly painted blue bus sat at the stop with a First Logo on the side but operated by CT Transport would take them to the same stop at the UWE campus even though the side destination display was stating U3 UWE Frenchay and the drivers were having to gee em up to board what would have been an empty bus departing to the campus.
I an amazed at the campus, there are blocks of accomodation at the campus described as family apartments and indeed one blue U3 service I witnessed departing was carrying 4 Oriental looking females each pushing a babies buggy and tugging behind them older children, 1 having what I would guess was a 5 and 3 years old and another a 4 year old with all 4 buggies stowed in the wheelchair space and the space made available by folding up the 3 seats on the drivers side after the stairs to the upper deck. And yes there is a nursery and kindergarten on the campus.
One thing that intrigues me is this, the U3 is operated by CT Transport who will operate Metrobus route m1 when it commences operating, U3 will become part of that route but route U3 CANNOT use the M32 Bus Only lanes to exit and join the M32, only in Bristol could such ludicrous conditions be concocted,
Also I noted this evening that stops on South Gloucestershires patch still has the old timetables displayed, I might vandalise the Lyde Green Park and Ride stop in the morning by sellotaping a copy of the new combined U3/m3 timetable to the timetable display case as a public spirited individual providing information to the pulic as the LA can.t be arsed to do it.

HST▸ on the 07.30 Paddington - Penzance & rtn today.
All services to and from the westcountry (beyond Exeter) that were IET▸ last week are HST today. And possibly for the rest of the week too. There's an issue with fuelling at Laira. Apparently the IETs don't like the taste of the liquid refreshment they're getting in Devon. The computers are saying the fuel is contaminated. Beyond parody. Still, we've had the wrong kind of snow, rain, leaves, sunshine etc, so why not the wrong kind of fuel too? Perhaps its pirated fuel illicitly imported from the land of the pixies.

Having been out with traveling fitters in BR▸ days in the 70's on the then new HST▸ ; which failed on a regular bases;
Failed on a regular basis? Surely not? I can find no such threads on internet forums of the day! It was pre fax days …………….. messages were sent by telex ………………. Funny - I thought the facsimile machine was older than any kind of telex, or indeed than the telephone! Well I can remember the telegram and the telegraph boys/young me who delivered the telegrams on a 250cc BSA motor cycle, now don't get me started on another subject or I'll have to consider starting a new thread, Telegrams and how they were delivered.

Then introduce a "spot hire" regime, simple.
For that to happen the owner of the HST▸ must make the offer and to do that they must find somewhere to stable them in the GWR▸ area and keep them in a state that they can run at a moment's notice. That will cost them money with no guarantee of income - unless they believe Hitachi are going to be unable to solve the problems quickly. In the mean time they are less able to look for a new long term use for the HSTs. Isn't anyone in GWR HQ▸ got a tongue in their head who could ask the owner to discuss a spot hire arrangement, GWR has the ability to maintain HST's still and with the current performance of the IEP▸ fleet a "spot hire" arrangement for a couple of HST's could well last for some time and could be negotiated at least say monthly, there are more than one way of skinning a cat you know.

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
If an IEP▸ is unavailable for service then a "lease credit" should be given for the unavailable IEP which should adequately cover the lease of a 40 year old, fully depreciated HST▸ .
I think all readers of this forum are aware that the electrification of the GWML▸ and the IEP project are both floundering deep in the brown stuff.
That might work if they were available for spot hire, but they are not and GWR▸ don't know when Hitachi might get the IET▸ 's working. GWR would have to hire them for some period without knowing when the IET's might be fixed. Then introduce a "spot hire" regime, simple.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here, but I was wondering how the IET▸ 's are accessing Stoke Gifford depot during the BPW» blockade? I was under the impression the whole of the BPW station area was closed today and for the foreseeable for electrification works, but I still see the empty IET's are still able to exit and enter Stoke Gifford depot, like this one; http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/V20152/2018/09/15/advancedAn IEP▸ can exit Stoke Gifford Depot onto any 1 of 6 lines, the down loop, No1, 2, 3 and 4 platform lines and the up loop and when all track alterations are complete be able to access all of the six lines from the Bristol direction too. I expect special arrangements are in force to allow for at least two of the aforementioned lines to be available for ECS▸ movements at all times.
