I would be interested if the bereaved sued for compensation & brought in both Driver & TfL» /Tram company on that statement.
What's the point in suing the driver, he is unlikely to have any wealth or assets to speak of so it would be vindictive also he has been proven innocent in a Criminal Court so in a civil court the prosecution would have to show the Criminal Court was wrong. The wealth is with TfL (aka the Tax Payer) if there is, which is likely, compensation will more than probably be settled out of Court, once the Criminal case has finished, there is nothing further to prove, the only things are the amount of money and an apology from TfL. To take the compensation to Court will incur costs and there is no guarantee the plaintives (victims) would get all of their cost covered above the amount of compensation. The tram driver is now by virtue of the verdict a victim and is entitled to compensation from TfL for putting his health and safety at risk whilst at work. Personally speaking it may help with closure as I am sure there will be a lot of bitterness with this outcome The driver has to be accountable |

As reported in the Weston Mercury, it seems these long discussed plans may actually be getting nearer to happening;LIFTS could soon be installed at Weston-super-Mare station to make it more accessible to all, writes John Wimperis.
While both platforms at the station can be accessed from the road without needing to navigate stairs, the only way to cross between them within the station is by using the step-access-only footbridge.
Now Network Rail plans to install two lifts at each end of the footbridge, as part of its Putting Passengers First programme. The works are supported by the government’s Access for All fund, with the Department for Transport identifying the station as one that would benefit from the funding.
The unused exterior stairs near the platform 2 entrance would be demolished and bricked up, as part of the plan, while other parts of the existing stairs inside the station will be replaced with new stairs and ramps up to a landing where the lifts will be.
Network Rail submitted a notification for prior approval for the work, which does not require a planning application, to North Somerset Council.
The possibility of building a second lift-accessed footbridge, instead of reworking the existing bridge was also explored, but it was decided it would be “less dominating” to rework the current footbridge.
In a letter submitted with their notice, Network Rail stated that adapting the current footbridge would also “allow all members of the public to use the same footbridge, ensuring that all users have equal travel distances between the entrances, platforms and bridge.”https://www.thewestonmercury.co.uk/news/23570822.national-rail-plans-install-new-lifts-weston-super-mare-station/

So we are talking here about Boxing day on Wednesday 27 December?
As I am a big football fan,
can persons stop running away with the idea that football followers in the Greater western Region area travel to away games by train.
I travel to all away games by train,and I rarely see more that TWENTY Bristol City followers travelling on cross country trains and lots of them are on railway pass's
football match's will be played on Saturday 23rd December,and I would expect that most clubs will wanna play on the Tuesday(26 december)
to prepare for games on the weekend of saturday 30th december.
I presume this is a GWR▸ questionare,so this will not concern cross country trains.
The only teams that Bristol City could be playing on GWR's patch are Millwall QPR Reading Cardiif Swansea and Plymouth.
As most of the votes look like a yes to a Sunday service,I would prefer an input into the departure times,what ever the majority would like,and the calling points.
maybe a 05:00am service from Bristol Parkway to BTM▸ bath chippenham Swindon didcot reading and Paddington.
Then a gap to approx 07:00am
Interesting to read about the low numbers on Crosscountry, I reckon I could name up to 20 people alone that I know that go to all away games by train, and are often on Crosscountry services As for Boxing Day, I know that the Taunton to Temple Meads corridor (stopping service) would be of a MASSIVE benefit if Bristol City were playing at home on Boxing Day As for the mention above about people being given two days off over Christmas, I'm never sure why it is assumed that people do want these days off Many people don't have families etc, and would be more than willing to work, and then you can take into account all the ethnic staff that don't celebrate Christmas that would be able to work |
