according to a recent report are the Bakerloo and Central lines,

maybe a good reason to use the Elizabeth line as much as possible as they have the trains sectioned off from the waiting public

Not only tube lines. I worked at Monument, Aldgate East, and Mile End and the ticket halls were just below the ground and if you blew your nose you had black dust in your hanky.

It wasn't helped pre 1971 when the steam locomotives came through especially if held at Aldgate East.

Reminded me of the conversation in which a friend recounted a footplate ride on a steam-hauled freight train via the East London line in the sixties when such things had become uncommon.

Passengers on the platforms they passed were said to appear 'Surprised'. Those at Rotherhithe particularly so.

The early history of the West Somerset Railway could have been completely different, if those in charge before the re-opening in 1976 had taken up the offer of three of these pannier tank locos "plus enough spares to make a fourth" for the princely sum of £700 each

At least they all got saved elsewhere.  But I shudder every time I am reminded of this lost opportunity
