Just got a set of season tickets - decided to do it online now that you can........but two "anomalies" I noticed are:

1. When doing it in person, you cannot buy a season ticket until the day before or friday before - online you can't do it within the week before.  i.e. yesterday, the first day I could order them for was Monday 9th not Monday 2nd.  In the station, I would have been able to buy Monday 2nd but not 9th.  So, I initially thought, ah, this will be so they can print and post them to arrive towards the end of next week, bearing in mind the professed reason for the restriction is to stop abuse.  WRONG.  They turned up special delivery today in the post.  Nice service but make a mockery of not being able to buy them in the station the same way.

2. If one loses ones ticket, who do you go to get a replacement.  When you buy them at the station, you got, pay ^10 and the station looks up your record card and issues the replacement.  I guess if I go to WOS» (Worcester Shrub Hill - next trains) if I lose them (likely) then they have no record of my purchase.

Now not a hypothetical question

Bought my season on line - expires on the 8th

Either its sitting on my desk in work or I have abandoned it somewhere.

How do I get a replacement?  ASked at WOS» (Worcester Shrub Hill - next trains) but since I'm not in their book as having bought it - they have no idea.............

I hope for you it's at work.

To get a duplicate, as you buy them online now it will go through whichever site you bought from (so I assume you will be dealing with Trainline, and I am not completely sure what the process would be)

Yeah so have a feeling you will be dealing with Trainline, who are contracted to deal with online bookings for FGW.

So maybe the down side of online purchase versus the reality of on site buying needs emphasising - I was cautious but thought I'd give it a go.......

Won't be buying online again

The FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section on the FGW (First Great Western) branded Trainline site also says there is a ^10 admin fee for lost tickets.  Not sure if they charge an admin fee at the station?

For a duplicate season ticket an Admin Fee of ^10 is normally charged at stations yes.

If it's a 7 day season, i don't think they're replaced. There's no record of these kept at stations so it's treated like a normal ticket as in " you've lost it ..tough"
Only longer period seasons ( a month or more) are replaced at a ^10 charge.

Twas a monthly

However it was on my desk in work - I was not in the office today so will only have to spend a day paying and then reclaiming.

The issue I was having is this......it can take 5 days for trainline to send a replacement....

Within five days my season was about to expire so I'd get the replacement just as it expires

However - I would have had to pay 87.00 times thurs, fri, mon, tue = 360ish of dosh to wait a good few weeks for a refund.

I COULD have covered it but I guess there are many who could not have if they'd lost their season and then had to cover a weeks worth of travel as well.

Now the slightly complicated question is....

I have to go via newport tomorrow (vehicle is in the shop) so will have to pay for ludlow - newport, newport-reading

If I do ludlow-newport, newport-didcot, and then didcot-reading I assume I can get a refund on the didcot-reading portion.....
