Lydney preservation visit

decided to visit Lydney docks to see the improvements that were planned.

Nice Cafe,been opened about a month,and they use milk that comes in GLASS bottles,EXCELLENT ME THINKS.
Although the Coffee was served in paper cups,not sure if china cups could/might be available.
Opening hours 09:00am till 4pm seven days a week.
You really do need a car to get you from Lydney train station to the docks, and I think it is a non public road and its full of pot holes

On our return we saw one of the preservations engineering vehicles going acroos the first level crossing(station road)
and then we saw workers on the tracks by the second level crossing(A48 Lydney by-pass)
Although road works were being carried out by  Taurus Crafts and was causing a bit of congestion

I explored the area a few years back and it's a level signposted walk of a bit over a mile from Lydney mainline station along a former railway embankment on the south side of the harbour arm (the road is on the other side and not as pleasant to walk along).  The views from the walk are intermittent as the vegetation really needs cutting back a bit so it can start to seem monotonous, but it's not so bad if you know there's a cafe at the other end!  I did come unstuck trying to loop back by a different route; the OS^▸ (Ordnance Survey) map isn't joking when it uses the "Marsh or salting" symbol.  Well worth exploring if you like industrial heritage or slightly bleak mudflats which I do but take some wetwipes if you want to read the rather neglected display boards that tell you what's what unless someone has cleaned them up since I went.  The heritage railway is also worth a visit and if you're lucky as I was on a 10 minute stroll from one of their stations you might see some wild boar.
