Infrastructure for Swansea^s new bus rapid transit system is nearing completion with the opening of an express busway (link below.)
http://www.transportbriefing.co.uk/story.php?id=5197

The road, constructed by Swansea Council and designed specifically for bus use, will form a core part of the Swansea Metro system, due to open in 2009. When the network is completed it will be served by Ftr Streetcar bendy buses operated by First. Ftr vehicles are currently in service in Leeds and York.

Built alongside the main railway line into the city centre the route will speed up journeys for buses travelling from the Landore park and ride site and will bypass busy roads, including Neath Road, Dyfatty Street and parts of High Street.

Transport chiefs from the council say the ^2.8m busway into Swansea will provide visitors and commuters bound for the city centre with an attractive alternative to travelling by car. As well as providing a quick link to the city centre for park and ride vehicles, the route will also cater for Swansea Metro services and express Swansea Valley bus services.

The infrastructure work has been paid for out of a Welsh Assembly Government transport grant and Objective One European funding.
