Does anyone remember the old triangular bus fare charts where you looked along a row and down a column to find how much your journey would cost?

Using the latest data on passenger flows, here is an adaption of that chart showing passenger flows between each pair of stations from Swindon to Salisbury

Chippenham and Swindon fifty per cent down from 2018 to 2021 - over 100,000 fewer journeys. Wow!

I wonder how the current figures look (not that we’ll know for a year or two)?

Comparative figures for other stations
Chippenham - 57.0%
Melksham - 70.2%
Trowbridge - 68.6%
Westbury - 80.0%
Dilton Marsh - 51.0%
Warminster - 81.4%
Salisbury - 65.1%

I found myself wondering why Westbury and Warminster have done so well.

At Westbury:
1. The additional car parking opened in March 2019, overcoming a serious problem at the station that had been surpressing use.
2. With reduced services and unreliability, people were still resultant to make complex journeys involving changes in 2021/22, and didn't really want to use multiple trains during covid either

At Warminster:
More guessing here ... it seems that most of the strong journeys are quite local and I wonder if revenue collection has improved?  Stories of certain trains being targetted, especially northwards Grin

And at both Westbury and Warminster, through the numbers are low, there is a small boost from those who have moved from the least-returning station between them at Dilton Marsh.
