Anyone remember the booby prize on one of Dave Lee Travis's Radio 1 phone-in quizzes? A phoneless cord. i.e. a length of string.  Ah, DLT - best remembered for his graceful resignation speech from Radio 1. Now when I hear his name I tend to think of a sandwich. |

Which I must confess put me off going in rather, as I gave up smoking years ago and have no wish to go somewhere that makes it compulsory.

Why? A check can be operating and still not check 100% of tickets. More to the point (at least in this thread) were the barriers checked? |

Since the Pedant Alert is on:To a standards writer may means it is permitted so that would say Ticket barrier checks are permitted to be in operation. The appropriate word is perhaps could which is merely a statement that something is possible. Though of course without the existence of a ticket barrier this may not be true either. |

From the National Rail Enquires website page for Blackhorse Road Station.  How can I top-up my Oyster▸ card at the ticket machine if it doesn't have one.....? (It does in fact have three LUL▸ ticket machines, which can sell a selection of National Rail tickets) |
