Your bandwidth when you're browsing this forum as always been one of my (webmaster) key parameters - wanting to get pages to you quickly and cheaply for you even if you're on the slowest of connections and having to pay for each megabyte you receive.  That's something I have given far more attention to here than on other web sites I look after; our members are likely to be travelling and connection online far more than on other sites - slow connections though most of the no connection holes are now gone (yes, I know about the hole between Salisbury and Romsey!).   So - images within pages have unnecessary extra detail removed prior to us keeping them on the server.

In extremis, the little images at the top right of the pages, have been compressed strongly as you members load an awful lot of them.  Which has meant that they don't really zoom very well and you would have got a very pixellated display if you filled your screen with it.   But I have been able to change that ...

On the new server, we are priced / limited on monthly traffic not in CPU use and processors have got much faster, so we are now able to store images high-res and compress them down to the size we know they're going to be as displayed.  It means I have been able to add a link to the top right images which means you can look at any of them at a much higher resolution just by clicking on them.   Enjoy!

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
