436  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Trainline rail ticket firm in ^500m stock market flotation on: December 01, 2019, 21:42:04
Why create a new company.  The existing TOCs (Train Operating Company) offer a service equal to Trainline without fees
437  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Insufficient capacity - Oldfield Park and Keynsham on: November 30, 2019, 13:11:25
The 0826 service was running about 30 mins late and following the 0850 which would not have helped the crowding on the latter service.
438  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Worcestershire Parkway Station project - ongoing discussion on: November 30, 2019, 13:08:28
The GWR (Great Western Railway) timetable shows it and I suspect most people will use that.  It is interesting to note that not all GWR trains stop there

Fuller details of bus changes in Bristol have now been published.

Looks like 15" gauge or less.  Moors Valley Railway perhaps?
441  Journey by Journey / South Western services / Re: Planned Industrial Action on: November 22, 2019, 07:21:28
This has been running for so long that I am beginning to wonder if RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) can actually remember what the issues are.  They have never really spelt them out.
442  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: Bristol - Birmingham corridor. Time for a service pattern review? on: November 18, 2019, 21:51:26
For the complete picture for the benfit of some younger members who may not know, perhaps you should also post the West of England to Manchester and Liverpool service that operated via Maindee East, Herefore and Shrewsbury in those days.

Although I understand what the point of this thread is, it might give the impression that there were no through trains back then to and from the north west.
The west to north-west services had already been diverted via Birmingham shortly after 1971.  If I recall correctly they ran via Worcester and were overtaken by a Cardiff - north-east service, giving connection between the two routes at Cheltenham or Birmingham
443  Journey by Journey / South Western services / Re: Two Track, Now! on: November 15, 2019, 21:36:07
We could certainly done with more double track today. I travelled from Trowbridge today on the 1631 waterloo service which was held at Salisbury for 45 minutes waiting the arrival of the Exeter portion. This had been held for 20+ minutes at Pinhoe waiting for a down service. It was then further held for 10 minutes at Tisbury loop for another late running down service. To cap the day off the service was terminated at Basingstoke because of signalling problems in th Vauxhall area. My arrival at Waterloo was 45mins late. All WofE services seemed to be running late today with little chance of recovery because of the very limited passing places.

Edit 17/11 - Delay repay claim now submitted
444  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Insufficient capacity - Oldfield Park and Keynsham on: November 13, 2019, 07:52:56
More bad news for them this morning.
07:23 Warminster to Great Malvern due 10:31
07:23 Warminster to Great Malvern due 10:31 will no longer call at Oldfield Park and Keynsham.
This is due to a fault on this train.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 3.

445  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Re: Is it time to take the trains back to Southampton Ocean Terminals on: November 09, 2019, 21:30:01
Cruise ships generally have only a 12 hour turn round in port (arr c0400, dep c1600)
446  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Re: Is it time to take the trains back to Southampton Ocean Terminals on: November 09, 2019, 14:07:59
I like the idea Grahame but I doubt that XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) have the capacity for the additional passengers and particularly their luggage.  Also the Mayflower Terminal is only one of four cruise terminals at Southampton.  There is one more in the "new docks", what used to be berth 101 and two in the Ocean Dock where the old Ocean Terminal, used by the Queens, was situated.  One side of the Ocean Dock has a rail connection but the other side does not as far as I can ascertain.  Whilst the Mayflower Terminal could be easily accessed by trains terminating at Central station, none of the others could without provision of new infrastructure.  The longer distances involved would require extended turn rounds as well. Incidentally, I have used, or visited every one of the cruise terminals.
447  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: Westbury Bypass, 2019 on: November 07, 2019, 16:02:33
Just one correction on a point of fact.  Only the A46/A36 route is a Trunk Road, under national control.  The others are designated National Primary Routes, under the control of the Local Authorities.
448  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: IETs into passenger service from 16 Oct 2017 and subsequent performance issues on: November 07, 2019, 10:41:57
At least 3 short forms today
449  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: The punishment fits the crime on: November 06, 2019, 13:46:41
Although a couple could be identified as being on the SBL (caught at Avonmouth) the majority were caught by checks at Bristol Temple Meads.  Given the size of some of the fares avoided they were clearly not from the SBL.

RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) members on SWR» (South Western Railway - about) must be highly paid if they can afford to be on strike for that length of time at this time of year.  I am sure that the union will not be making up their pay.  Perhaps the union bosses could show solidarity and not be paid during that time Tongue Tongue
