If Bristol were to introduce such a system. I'd be willing to share a seat with Rita Webb Peggy Mount or Norah Batty !

You want to sit next to dead people?

Don't forget the new Premier Inn directly opposite St Davids, which is unhelpfully called Exeter Central...

Actually, it's worse than that - it's Exeter Central St Davids!

can anybody tell me what is to happen with the long lengths of rail that are lying in the four foot on the down line?

It's a process called oxidation.
22  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Gus Honeybun, Westward Television/TSW mascot. on: January 13, 2013, 21:39:28
As a small aside, while we're talking Westward, have a look at this, the Westward TV start up in the days before 24 hour TV.  Small clip of the Torbay Steam Railway (as it was then) and a virtually empty A38 at Marsh Mills (at around 2.49).  Great music as well.

Wow, that brings back memories!  Cheesy

Tarr Steps (at 3:20), looks a bit different today Wink

* I grew up in Taunton which was ostensibly in the HTV West ITV region.

I, on the other hand, grew up in Ilfracombe which was - in theory - Westward territory, but living down by the harbour meant we only got HTV Wales; until 1974 I didn't know who Gus Honeybun was.

But I do still have a 'Tinkertainment' badge somewhere, which I earned by having my birthday read out in 1970-ish.  Grin

27  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Barnstaple for Christmas? on: December 28, 2012, 17:24:33
FGW (First Great Western) website now showing:
Exeter St Davids - Barnstaple
Trains between Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple are suspended. Road transport is in place but because of flooding on local roads may not serve all stations. This line will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Where does it say this?

http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/disruption says "The line is expected to be closed until at least 29th December", while http://www.journeycheck.com/firstgreatwestern/ says "Disruption is expected until 09:00 01/01".

Whoops too much xmas drinkies Grin.  I meant to say the National Rail website says..........

I see @NDevonCouncil have now tweeted that the Barnstaple line is "set to reopen on Saturday", based on the JourneyCheck information. FFS (for goodness' sake (a more polite definition))...

29  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Christmas and Boxing Day trains - ongoing discussion on: December 26, 2012, 18:24:56
Please note that in North Devon virtually all bus services are operating a normal Sunday Service on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

As they did in 2009. And 2010. And 2011. And again this year.
30  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Mass disruption due to flooding - December 2012 on: December 25, 2012, 02:34:47
Strangely, I was in Pilton on Saturday, and I was definitely in Devon. It is a suburb of Barnstaple on the way to Braunton.

It is indeed.  My apologies to the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page): I should have referred to my extensive range of Ordnance Survey maps before posting.  Roll Eyes Embarrassed

And, in case this happens in other parts of Barnstaple, we have bits called Newport and Derby as well!
