All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Rail unions strike action 2022/2023/2024

Looking at RTT» for this coming Sunday 3rd of December, from what I can see, the only HSS▸ services that will be operating to/from London is an hourly service Swindon to Paddington and an hourly service North Cotswolds line to Paddington.
There will also be an hourly HSS service between Bath and Bristol along with the usual local and inter regional services. These appear to be running as normal across the GWR▸ network. However, what’s shown today on RTT and what actually runs on the 3rd may be two completely different things.
GWR have confirmed this on X (Twitter) this morning: https://twitter.com/GWRHelp/status/1730121328034738543

I’m expecting widespread disruption on Sunday 3rd December with the non-contractual overtime ban. Many HSS▸ grade drivers are likely to make themselves unavailable as per their T&C’s and GWR▸ grade drivers won’t be volunteering for additional shifts.
GWR backing up what you posted yesterday II: Sunday 3 December – Action short of a strike
There will be significant disruption to services and customers are recommended to travel the day before or the following day. Where trains can run, they will be extremely busy.

Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Storm Babet

Looking at the cancellations and services altered because of this ‘severe weather’*, it’s embarrassing and quite frankly pathetic for a modern railway with modern rolling stock to be so badly affected.
When I dropped in on the Dawlish webcam earlier, it was just in time to set a 150 followed by an HST▸ negotiate this stretch of line with no issues whatsoever.
Thoughts with all those who had the misfortune travelling to/from the southwest today.
*Someone needs to tell the Met Office as there’s no severe weather warnings anywhere near the southwest today.

Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: Dropping off fine, Chippenham Station Car Park

And how many people just pay up not wanting to risk the fine doubling after 14 days or the hoops you have to jump through to appeal to get it reversed?
If you were to carry out a survey, I suspect you’ll find many motorists have been caught out by these private parking companies at some point. After all their cameras cover:
Airports Hotels Railway stations Pubs/Restaurants Hospitals Shopping Centres Service stations Supermarkets
Easy money once you’ve stuck a couple of cameras up and leave it to a computer system start issuing the fines.

Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2023 - Train update and amendment log - Swindon <-> Westbury

Eh? https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L51441/2023-10-15/detailedBeen approaching Melksham since 0835 (as at writing 0909) Cancellations to services between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads Due to engineering works not being finished on time at Swindon the line is closed. Disruption is expected until 10:00 15/10. Train services between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads have been cancelled, delayed or diverted. Chippenham, Swindon and Didcot Parkway will not be served. Customer Advice Due to over night engineering works not having been completed, trains running on the main lines between Bristol, Swansea and London Paddington are being diverted. Chippenham, Swindon, and Didcot Parkwway are not being served currently. Looking at journey check and RTT» , it looks like it’s causing all kinds of issues in both directions for those trying to get to Bath for the half marathon.

Journey by Journey / South Western services / Re: South Western Railways Waterloo - Bristol services axed

From another source I hear that when the Bristol - Waterloo trains were canned, there was internal rumbling within SWR» as it really wasn't a direction people wanted to take, and those rumblings have not subsided.
I wouldn’t be surprised that there were rumblings. The service was well used and very successful, sometimes a bit too successful based on past experience.
