Hello experts

I'd like to buy an off peak or anytime return from Salisbury to Cheltenham going via  ( and breaking my journey at )Stroud on the way, and via Temple Meads  on the return.

The journey planner doesn't seem to allow for this on its advanced options, and I'm not sure if they would both be permitted routes on a return ticket.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Salisbury to Cheltenham Spa is valid via either Swindon/Stroud or Bath/Bristol.

You are free to travel out via one route and back via another. Journey Planners don't have the facility to show different routes for each leg.

Break of journey on either or both legs is permitted. If you are breaking your journey on the outward leg on an Off Peak Return then travel must be completed the same day (actually until 0429 the next morning). If you are breaking your outward  journey on an Anytime Return then the outward portion is valid for five days (actually until 0429 on day six). Both the Off Peak Return and Anytime Return return portions are valid for one calendar month. Break of journey on the return portion can be made any time during that validity, obeying any time restrictions applicable to the Off Peak Return.

There could be a small saving to be made with split tickets if your journey is a a day return. What are your specific travel times?

Thanks BNM,  great advice, as alway, much appreciated.

I’m looking at travelling out around 8.30/ 9.30, return the next day around 11.00.

Not too worried if it is peak, as long as its not a daft price, as it is on expenses.

I wonder why planners arent set up to  have the option to show different routes on each leg ?

In which case only the Anytime Return will suffice if you want to break your outward journey overnight at Stroud.
