Comparing with the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) News item http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/the_friday_night_rush,  assuming there is a train you can get on how far can you get in an hour using a train? Bristol Temple Meads and Paddington or Waterloo might make interesting comparisons. My limited experience would suggest something over 60 miles from Paddington, although depending on what train you get is it less stressful than driving?

Bristol is the best of these 10 cities for journey distances in the 4pm rush hour.
And yet we're also told Bristol has the lowest rush hour traffic speeds of any city outside London.

Think Truro could easily compete on that

I disagree having commuted to Truro for 5 years. I could be back in Liskeard after finishing at 5 quicker than it takes to do 5 miles in Bristol!

Wow! Never having been caught in Bristol rush traffic I wouldn't know. But having been in Truro's on a very frequent basis I  know that is very bad.

I was lucky enough to have considerable flexibility in start and finish times when I was working in Bristol. That, and my encyclopaedic knowledge of back streets, meant I never got badly held up.

Taunton, though...
