31  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR Performance Figures on: July 29, 2017, 20:20:10
Those of us who make long distance journeys to London several time a month at eye-wateringly high anytime fares per journey (rates per mile much higher than for LTV (London [and] Thames Valley)) along with plenty of others who do the same (the train is full before Reading and yet we are after the time that would get most people to regular work on time) will feel that we are the ones contributing the most.

I wouldn't want to hazard a guess which ticket type brings in more income..but I do know that if your journey is disrupted you can get compensation for your ticket. It has to be really really really bad for season tickets holders to obtain that benefit (and you'll be lucky to actually be able to claim it for a void day!)

Which, strangely, is where you'd expect to find this information.

Indeed..although it's not the information I am looking for. The info I want is the mythical information that explains how season ticket holders claim their mythical void day compensation. I know they owe me it, but nowhere does it explain the process. They are apparently supposed to advertise the compensation arrangements. In 3 years of holding a season ticket they have never written to me, never e-mailed me, and I've never seen a poster at a station.

If you can find this info on gwr.com then please let me know! And even better, if you see a poster, then please let me know! I suspect they don't exist..

Very easy - ticket office will add them to your next season renewal.

I prefer the cash refund option. Regardless, where I renewed my season ticket (The Trainline) they had no knowledge of either of these arrangements and told me they had been misinformed by GWR (Great Western Railway).

The latest stats are out.. and not too exciting for GWR (Great Western Railway). And that's even having declared 2 void days on 5 and 6 July. They took their time announcing those.. suspect it took a while to work out which would be cheapest for them (void days vs. taking an even greater hit on performance stats).

Anybody seen any of the much promised posters / e-mails / letters explaining the compensation to season ticket holders?!

("We will put posters up at our stations, and get in touch with you by email or post.")

I've been making a point of looking for them and on their website and nothing. I don't want extra days as it takes me into Christmas holidays so hopefully there's no time limit on cash refunds. The only mention I've seen was buried in a twitter conversation with an unhappy customer.

Me too - and have seen nothing. GWR and their lack of commitment to season ticket holders is a disgrace. At best it is incompetent, at worst they use that incompetence to actively avoid paying the compensation that they owe.

Still not a peep from GWR (Great Western Railway) and I've escalated to Transport Focus.

Meanwhile.. GWR have sneaked out 2 new void days on 5 and 6 July on HSS (High Speed Services) and LTV (London [and] Thames Valley) services. Yet more fun to have claiming those..

The trick seems to be to get through to the Fuhrerbunker directly.....I heard nothing other than the usual "Manana" platitudes from the usual sources for a couple of months, when I emailed Hopwood direct with a whisper of going to the Press I had an apology & two 1st class Anytime, any destination returns from one of his glamorous assistants within a week.....

Right.. I've gone and done it. Let's see if my quest for void day compensation is finally answered !

Reminds me. Delay Repay introduction is now 9 months overdue.

Are there any concrete plans to introduce it? What are the sanctions for not doing so? And what might the implications be for season ticket holders?
39  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / The 16:42 to Cheltenham Spa.. on: July 03, 2017, 14:59:04
In this 2015 briefing note on the GWR (Great Western Railway) franchise (http://www.avocetline.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/October-2015-GWR-Franchise-Update-MK3.pdf). Unless I am reading it incorrectly, I think it says that there was due to be a new direct service introduced in May 2017 from Paddington to Cheltenham Spa - the 16:42 (see page 6).

I can't find any trace of this new service. Does anybody here know when/if it is due to come to fruition?

Apparently there is only one person who knows how to process these refunds ...

Well it was the person on the GWR (Great Western Railway) hotline who told me that! In 2015 they paid my season ticket void day refund by cheque. My 2016 remains outstanding. It was specifically the void day compensation that apparently only one person knows how to process.

Perhaps only one person manages the comms too, because despite the promises on the GWR web site that they contact season ticket holders to tell them how to claim void day refunds.. I've never had any communication - electronic or by post - to explain it. Am I alone on that score?
43  All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Re: GWR’s compensation scheme is all delay and no repay on: June 02, 2017, 22:22:11
Still taking 8 weeks apparently. Clearly nothing in place to clear the backlog.

Still awaiting my void day compensation from 21 November 2016. Apparently there is only one person who knows how to process these refunds and they have conveniently been out of the office every time I have called. No promise to call me back has been fulfilled yet.
44  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR Performance Figures on: April 21, 2017, 23:29:58
and those latest numbers not doing much to help!

Maybe there is hope of getting a season ticket discount (or some better on time performance!)

.......possibly the most First World of First World problems......personally it comes as something of a relief when there's no Internet access, it means people actually talk to each other.....or even open a book.....remember them?  Smiley

Hardly first world! Connectivity is significantly better in India than on a GWR (Great Western Railway) train.

Travelling on the Hurtigruten ship off the north coast of Norway - far north of the arctic circle and while at sea I had a full 4.5G signal on my phone. Got significantly faster downloads than I get in central London. We've a lot to learn in the UK (United Kingdom)!

Oh, and books..what are they? Smiley
