2596  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera sleeper service - Cornwall to London on: September 01, 2012, 17:28:36
BNM do you still work there? If so I am one of your regular customers I believe (unless there is more than one holiday inn in Taunton). Stay there whenever I visit family in Taunton as it is superior to rival chain hotels in taunton, and normally similar prices.
Once made the mistake of staying in the dump of a Travelodge at Hankridge way. Complained to the Travelodge manager about the cleanliness, and basically in politer terms if it wasnt good enough clean it myself.
I emailed photos to travelodge head office, and their response wasnt even apologetic just made excuses. I didnt mention the managers attitude just the cleanliness with supporting photos to my complaint.
2597  Journey by Journey / Thames Valley Branches / Re: Parking Offence at Twyford Station on: August 31, 2012, 20:12:32
Without wishing to go off topic, a couple of thoughts:

Does any know how APCOA (Car parking company used at GWR (Great Western Railway) - controlled stations in the area)/Roxburge/Graham White are able to get address details?  Can anyone apply to DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) to get the address of the registered keeper of a vehicle.  Doesn't sound right to me.

Also, we all state "I am not a lawyer" - are there there no lawyers in this forum who are prepared to give some background or confirm why Graham White are allowed to continue in, what might be considered, "demanding money with menaces"?

Just saying...

I'd have thought that it would potentially be a DPA breach for the DVLA to supply the information. The only parking fines that have legal standings are those issued by the council.

St Budeaux Victoria Road to St Budeaux Ferry Road.  Or vice versa.

can you do that without changing trains though? The question asked staying on the same train, would you not need to change at plymouth?
2599  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Labour slams FGW on: August 16, 2012, 17:03:12
FGW (First Great Western) have not ended the franchise early, they have simply declined their right to a 3 year EXTENSION of the 7 year franchise! Thats how it is!

I commented this on another forum, and had responses flying back that I was incorrect, and it was a 10 year franchise all along and they have just cut the contract short
2600  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Person hit by train between Falmouth and Penryn - 16 August 2012 on: August 16, 2012, 17:00:51
falmouth packet that CfN links to has now added the update in addition to CfN quote
Quote
UPDATE: 13.50. First Great Western is reporting that the train line in Falmouth has reopened, after a man was hit by a train earlier this morning.

They are advising that there may be some journey disruption as services recover.

2601  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Labour slams FGW on: August 15, 2012, 19:26:47
And just to be accurate, Labour didn't slam FGW (First Great Western). Ms Eagle didn't mention them. Although for those in the know the subtext was clear.

True, but as you say it was blindingly obvious she meant First.

I bet she'd moan about reducing the costs of the railways too (ie. staff).

Almost certainly speaking about NXEC (National Express East Coast), FGW have neither defaulted or handed any service back early. Terrible uneducated assumption to make that she was referring to FGW. Remember to Assume makes an ASS out of U and ME
2602  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Bridge Strike at Scorrier on: August 13, 2012, 19:10:38
Hearing that a truck has struck a bridge beside the old Scorrier rail station. Radio Cornwall is reporting delays as trains need to cross the struck bridge at a maximum of 5 mph. Road has also been closed most of the afternoon. The live feed on here shows no issues, FGW (First Great Western) website states no issues in Cornwall. (I like the new service updates page on FGW website)
2603  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: FirstGroup Sells North Devon Bus Operations To Stagecoach For GBP2.8M on: August 12, 2012, 17:29:07
There's also the impact on First Group. Their UK (United Kingdom) bus division is struggling a bit at the moment and there is rumoured to be a list of First Bus operations they are looking to dispose of. They are now no longer getting ^2.8 million from the sale of the North Devon operation and will be paying out a fair whack in redundancy payments.

could they recoup some of the 2.8m by selling some of their no longer required north devon assets to stagecoach?
Could they get out of redundancy pay outs if they arrange new employment for their drivers with other companies i.e. Stagecoach?
All though not the original take over, selling the assets and arranging employment for their staff following their closure, may have the same effect as sale of business, without the TUPE (The Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006.) process for staff, and the competition commisioner getting in the way.

. firstwestcoast.co.uk appears to be owned by someone in a residential property in Birmingham.

This could be rather worrying, set a fake website and potentially fraudulently bring in payments, but in fact have no connection or tickets to sell

2606  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Local stations in the West to be axed? on: August 03, 2012, 21:56:39
Redruth has better parking facilities and interlinking bus services from rural outlying areas to a large bus layby right outside the ticket office.
2607  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Helicopter service - Penzance to Isles of Scilly on: August 03, 2012, 21:54:32
The land needed to be sold to release capital as the current helicopters are edging towards the end of their operational lifes. The capital from the land sale was to fund the purchase of the new helicopters. Sadly no land sale, no money for new helicopters, and current ones are at the end of their operational life.

On a side note Isles of Scilly Steamship co which runs skybus flights and the scillonian ferry have been very quick announcing they have more than sufficient resources to create spare capacity to transport the 70000 passenger journeys being made annually by the helicopter.
2608  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Bizzare group of travellers!? on: August 03, 2012, 21:50:28
as above there is a jewish convention at Tremough. Falmouth and Penryn dont see more than single figures of jewish people all year, then hundreds all turn up for this convention. Good for cultural diversity in an area where there is little cultural diversity normally
2609  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Local stations in the West to be axed? on: August 03, 2012, 21:48:40

As for running trains fast from Penzance to Plymouth calling only at Truro, I can see this discouraging rail use if journey times are extended by people from other stations having to change at Truro or Plymouth.

Camborne and St Austell have greater population than Truro, so would be more priority than Truro based on population spread.
truro has a population approx 20k, camborne approx 40k, St Austell approx 23k. Therefore Those two warrant more fast trains in my thoughts.
2610  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Local stations in the West to be axed? on: August 01, 2012, 21:37:52
A hell of a lot of people from Cornwall drive to Exeter or Tivvy to get trains to London to save about an hour and a half on the journey. Par can be busy also when there is a connection from Newquay. But the likes of Hayle, Lostwithiel, St Germans and Saltash really dont warrant the extra messing around which will get all the user groups up in arms but it's true, and there is no reason why every London train needs to call at Camborne, Redruth, St Austell, Par and Liskeard.

Myself included here, is about 100 mins drive from mine to tiverton parkway, compared to an average train journey of 195 mins from St Erth to Tiverton Parkway
