16  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Diagram Help on: April 16, 2012, 23:06:08

3. Which train is the 5P12 - 20:46 Penzance - Par formed from? I imagine the ex 2C50 or ex 5T89

Formed from 2C50

Just one quickie to pick up on.   Is 2C50 Sat worked by a single 153 or is it attached to something else on arrival Penzance.    I.m assuming 5P12 is a 153 if working 5L71 and Looe on Monday after Newquays Sunday at a guess.

Edited to fix quote. bignosemac

Saturdays 5P12 has been formed by a 153 off 5T89, to form Sunday's NQY (Newquay (Station)) then Mondays LOO. Guessing over Easter its been a 150 ex 2C50 to increase capacity.

Sleeper stock sits on Long Rock from Sat morning to Sunday evening.

I think the Truro Gateline Staff are fantastic!!!!
18  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Newquay cheap fares..... on: February 03, 2012, 00:21:11
Just a reminder that fares from stations on the Newquay Branch (excluding Par) are still half price until the end of February, these can only be purchased from the guard on the train and where a Off Peak Day Return is valid. ie anywhere Cornwall side of Tiverton/Axminster. Railcard and Group Save available on top, means four people can do a day return Newquay to Exeter for something like ^3.80 each!! Go on, get out and use it Wink)
19  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: What does this actually mean? on: October 23, 2011, 12:58:09
The problem this day was both trains being formed of a single 153 with the Oyster (Smartcard system used by passengers on Transport for London services) Festival on in Falmouth. Even though *most* trains weren't full say around 50 passengers, the problem is the time it takes to get them out of two narrow doors at each end of the coach, then get a similar number of people back on, especially add a couple buggies and bikes. A 150 however has nice wide doors in the centre part of the carriage. Apparently the Falmouth is to be run by x2 class 150 from December.

I was on a HST (High Speed Train) (crammed into a lugguage rack) that departed CDF» (Cardiff - next trains) apx 23:55 and arrived BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI)) 00:55, running via Parkway and calling at all stations bar Pilning.

sorry you guys misunderstand i asked in reply to the question 'what are FGW (First Great Western) obliged to do to get people home tonight'

If 64,000 people turn up for the 23:27 Cardiff to Bristol, think FGW are indeed obliged to do something about it.
22  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Sunday services - Par - Newquay Winter 2011 on: June 15, 2011, 20:45:39
Any truth in the rumour that the Sunday service from December is at the cost of the first weekday trip?? If true would be better leaving it as it is going back to 10:13 as the first weekday departure from Newquay is rather backward... Fab  Huh
23  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Sunday services - Par - Newquay Winter 2011 on: June 12, 2011, 00:16:44
Seems a very costly move having to staff the signalboxes at Goonbarrow and St.Blazey for this. Is Looe to get an all year round Sunday service?? No extra signalbox staff required to do this so cost surely minimal???
24  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Part time season tickets: Devon and Cornwall on: June 12, 2011, 00:13:20
The move for Carnets has come from a number of members of the Customer Panel and they are right, there should be a mechanism to encourage people who travel regularly but not every day to take the train.  This is supported by the Carnets we have run in the Tamar Valley since 2004 which have helped increase journey numbers by 50% in an area with a small population.

On the subject of The Tamar Valley Carnets, has anything been done to rectify the current ill thought out version where one half is given on train and the other at the gateline?? Will the summer books be back to one ticket??? Currently, you give half on the train and the other half at Plymouth gateline and vice versa on the return trip. Works fine, apart from the large number of people who alight/join at Devonport/Keyham etc don't have to give a portion to a gateline so get twice as many journies from their book.....

"A number of passengers, however, have complained that they have not been able to see their friends or relatives safely onto their train"

If these people are seeing 'friends or relatives' onto their train how are they passengers?Huh

28  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Newquay Branch 'Welcome Back' on: December 11, 2010, 17:19:49
For January and February CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day')) fares FROM stations on the Newquay branch will be half price and railcards/group save discounts will still apply to these. Allows a journey as far as Tiverton/Axminster for a bargain price valid on all Newquay services apart from the first round trip on a weekday. Note from next weeks new TT all services are booked to call at Bugle.

Also 50% off the Looe Valley Explorer ticket for the same period as part of GWR150.

DBS» (Deutsch Bahn Schenker - UK (United Kingdom) website) had to send an assisting loco from WESTBURY so having failed mid afternoon 6G07 arrived back at St.Blazey 22:30, 580 mins late. Newquay unit 153369 spent the night at Goonbarrow. This mornings 2N00 06:52 Par to Newquay was cancelled as a result.
