On the way back from Winchester yesterday, the Basingstoke  to Reading train made the following announcement audible and customer information screen as it pulled into Bramley (Hampshire): "Take care when stepping from the train to the platform. Yate. Yate"

What and where the "Yate. Yate." came from would be interesting to know.

Every time I go through Yate,* I wonder where it came from.  Grin

*To rhyme with "latte" of course.

Pre lockdown, we were getting a train from Weston to Parson Street
The announcements were Bracknell, Ascot, Longcross etc

I was mildly amused  that people actually thought this was the stops we would be making, xlearly a geography lesson or two were missed

Once, when I was on a train from Bristol, northward bound, the train manager announced on the intercom that he would shortly be checking the tickets of "all escapees from Yate".

Are you sure you didn't mishear "Late. Late."?

No, CyclingSid did hear correctly, Yate has infected GWR (Great Western Railway)'s APIS and has been appended twice to the end of the platform warnings.

I thought I misheard, and then it trundled across the information screen.

Early IET (Intercity Express Train) days ... trains from Swansea to Paddington, approaching Newport.  "The next station this train will call at is Neath" says the automated announcement, upon which the train manage comes on with the "sorry about that - next station we call at is Newport.  At least it got the first two letters right ..."

On approaching Swindon the announcements are "change here for Cheltenham Gloucester Kemble Stonehouse and Stroud".

Which I think proves that the automatic announcements are done in alphabetical order and not in station running order.

The same announcement is heard on trains originating from Cheltenham. Change to go back where you came from?
