496  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Avocet Line - Exeter to Exmouth - incidents and events; services, stock and related improvements on: January 09, 2019, 23:47:22
I expect this is the promised 158's  They may have new universal toilets fitted. Be interesting to see them under the existing timetable go to Exmouth. Under the Devon Metro they are expected to run between Barnstaple and Exeter Central reversing in what I now call the Morrison's siding.

They will be a while yet due to delays in cascading and are intended to run between Barnstaple and St James Park.   If they were to terminate Exeter Central they would run to Exmouth Jn to reverse which is the normal maneuver for such rains that can't run back straight away.

What I call Morrisons ( easier to visualise where it is) siding is actually East Sidings and many trains in the evening use it running empty from Exeter Central.

498  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion on: December 28, 2018, 16:04:41
On 2 January electric train services will run between Newbury and London Paddington for the first time.

The upgrade will enable GWR (Great Western Railway) to run brand new trains with more seats.

499  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Crossrail/Elizabeth Line. From construction to operation - ongoing discussion on: December 25, 2018, 21:45:56
What seems to be TfL» (Transport for London - about)'s aspiration is to take over the Reading-Paddington service in December 2019, ie around the original Crossrail completion date, but operating into the main station rather than the Crossrail one. So in effect this would be at the current frequency.

So no through running until into 2020. There is something seriously wrong which doesn't auger well for Crossrail 2 or High speed 2 as the same people seem to be involved.
500  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Crossrail/Elizabeth Line. From construction to operation - ongoing discussion on: December 24, 2018, 16:56:25
If Crossrail Paddington is available (ie finished, almost finished, a few wall tiles to go, a bit of paint, a couple of light bulbs missing) why not run a service using the new, idling in the sidings, trains and the bi directional track.

It would be something positive instead of all this wallowing in misery and look like something has been done.

501  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: New GWR Timetable on: December 21, 2018, 21:28:46
It did not work today because of a late running XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) in platform 4  IC91 had to go into 5 and IC92 went into 4 as the XC left.
502  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: New GWR Timetable on: December 21, 2018, 00:03:16
Be even more logical if they used 3 and 4. Then passengers on the later train 1C92 - 18:03 from London could make a cross platform change to 1C91 - 17:33 ex Pad, for intermediate stations between Exeter and Newton Abbot.

Using platform 3 ties down the platform for too long if IC91 used it.
503  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: New GWR Timetable on: December 20, 2018, 20:31:04
Noticed this week at Exeter St Davids when IC91 is overtaken by IC92 that the platforms they use (5 and 4 respectively) have been reversed. It is more logical as IC91 becomes the local stopping service which normally goes from platform 3 so customers only have to move across to platform 4 . This has only happened since IC92 became an IET (Intercity Express Train).

This post is probably in the wrong heading
504  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Closure of Old Oak Common (81A) December 2018 on: December 17, 2018, 21:38:04
According to opentrains it was running late into platform 1 and reversed out within 5 minutes to Didcot. I do not know what stock it was.
505  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Closure of Old Oak Common (81A) December 2018 on: December 17, 2018, 19:25:22
Looking today 1D91 (Didcot) definitely came from reading as well as 5D91 and 1C91 (Paignton) came as 3C91 from reading I presume.

I've noticed before when 1C91 has come early as 5C91 and waits for time in Royal Oak sidings.
506  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Closure of Old Oak Common (81A) December 2018 on: December 17, 2018, 17:05:32
Since the closure of Old Oak the HST (High Speed Train) are coming from Reading train care depot and timetabled about an hour to get to Paddington. This seems incredibly inefficient. Does a special crew bring it to Paddington and then changed to the regular crew for the passenger part.  One of the trains I watch is IC91 which is now empty Reading- Paddington-Paignton-Newton Abbot-empty Laira.
507  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: New GWR Timetable on: December 04, 2018, 17:59:59
Waste of paper. No Devon Metro! No extra trains to Cornwall! At least the XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) trains are still running past Exeter. And to please Brexit voters the E (EU» (European Union - about) funding) trains have lost the E and are still there.
508  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: HST overnight stabling at the London end once OOC is closed on: November 30, 2018, 23:12:46
Reading TCD sees one HST (High Speed Train) stable during weekday afternoons. I wonder whether overnight stabling may be precluded due to lack of space.

All HST diagrams until year end have no overnight stabling at the London end. Sets start and end their day at either Laira, Long Rock or St Phillips Marsh, excepting one HST that overnights at Worcester.

Weekday HST diagrams from 10th to 28th December.

What about IC92 1803 the last Paddington - Penzance. Have GWR (Great Western Railway) the nerve to make it an IET (Intercity Express Train).

Added image of new station. I expect M&S made a contribution. They like fooodhalls to be near stations to capture the commuter market going to work getting a sandwich or coming home to get a quick meal to cook at home.
510  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Closure of Old Oak Common (81A) December 2018 on: November 16, 2018, 14:13:27
Does this mean the 1733 Paignton and 1803 Penzance will finally be IET (Intercity Express Train). They seem very wary of using IET's on these two services.

Not necessarily, as these two services end the day away from London, so could be candidates for HST (High Speed Train) running until they are all withdrawn next year

I don't where to look for the diagrams but I am sure the 17.33 Paignton comes out of Old Oak Common works passenger London-Paignton-Newton Abbot then empty to Laira
