We had a great day out at the Steam Museum!  Train was right on time at Melksham station.  6 passengers alighted there and three of us joined the train, and there were about six people already on board.

So that's 15 passengers from, to or through Melksham

Train back to Melksham, again right on time.  About  dozen passengers on the return journey, with a few more joining the train at Chippenham.

And that's perhaps 18

I'd say a lovely day if it wasn't for the pig-awful weather..........

Which makes a big difference ...

And it's winter and it's Monday.

Roll on my next journey!  So nice to sit back and relax, and enjoy the Wiltshire scenery from a different perspective.

How do you fancy a direct train to Salisbury on 16th or 23rd February - or even to Southampton or Portsmouth. Engineering works are bringing us some exciting opportunities for those two days!

...and just because I was there, here's the 15:14 from Swindon yesterday after it arrived at Westbury.  (Its return working was my train home...)

BNM:  Conductor still couldn't find correct code on his machine despite me giving him the code with which you provided me, but he found a way of providing us with combined train/museum tickets anyway, amidst lots of friendly banter, which was fun.

Wonderful to hear you had a great day by train from Melksham. Positive stories are just what is needed to show that the improved TransWilts services are attracting new custom to the line. If the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership are looking for 'case studies', then this is one that shouts nothing but positives.  Smiley

Glad to hear also that you got the combined train/museum ticket on board the train. The ticket machines that Conductors use should hold pretty much every combination of origin and destination for walk-up tickets that would be available at a staffed station. There are, admittedly, some omissions. And slightly unusual tickets, such as the one you required, may be hidden in sub-menus. That you got the correct ticket, and the interaction with the Conductor was friendly, is a positive reflection on the Conductor involved.

Hi guys. I still haven't completely mastered the technique of providing quotes, so please bear with me while I rather clumsily reply best way I can!  (I find sometimes I can get the quotes I require to appear, and sometimes I can't..... Huh)

BNM; yes, the chirpy conductor was a happy start to our day, but he wasn't the only one to make our day; we got friendly and helpful advice from the men manning the desk at Swindon, and I certainly felt good about my first rail excursion for almost a year.  I shall certainly be returning.  Oh, but where were all the women railworkers?  We did see one at the Swindon station exit but I think she was the only female we saw.

grahame: Not sure I'll be travelling to any of the places you mentioned in February unless I can find somewhere to go where I can take Echo.  Makes for expensive outings having to put her in the doggie creche whenever I go out for the day!

bobm:  Well fancy that, a souvenir piccie of our 15.14!  The only slight negative about the journey back to Melksham was that we sat ourselves in seats with very little legroom, which meant with my arthritic condition I got very stiff by the time we got back from Swindon.  My own fault for not choosing a seat with a table, to give me some jiggle-room.

Thanks to all of you who have taken the trouble to comment on my feedback, and for your advice.

I thought that I might take Gypsy and Billy to Salisbury - short walk, lunch somewhere like http://coachandhorsessalisbury.co.uk/ and train ride back.

On some trains, the "priority" seats have more legroom than the regular ones ... not sure if that's the case on the 153s.  Anyone?
