Ah yes....ITV West news website just gave the general details but I think that the implication was that he was local, along with the two others.

Whilst I am glad to hear of the conviction, I feel that the sentence is inadequate.
A suspended prison term, which means not actually being locked up, is not in my view sufficient.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Sometimes locking up those with mental health issues isn't the answer. He was given a pretty onerous community sentence.

I try not to second guess those whose jobs are to decide sentencing and offender management. Particularly when they have all the facts about the case and the offender, and aren't just basing their opinions and decisions on brief media reports.

Having been a burglary victim some time ago, I was shocked when the offender, caught and sentenced was not given a restitution order - i.e he could keep what he had stolen or the cash (even if spent) he had raised.

This perpetuates theft and vandalism. The Old Testament remedy for such actions was fourfold restitution (fivefold in some cases). That stopped crime paying.

I tend to think that the State should provide the restitution and then either recover it from the guilty or make sure that they don't do it again.

The loss of the Thumper  driving trailer in 2016 also springs to mind.
