London Underground station worker stabbed in face

The station temporarily closed but reopened shortly after midday

A London Underground (LU) worker has been stabbed in the face in the ticket hall of a station.

The male customer service assistant, reported to be in his 30s, was attacked at around 10:40 GMT at Lancaster Gate station.

The injured man was taken to hospital. The station was temporarily closed while police attended but reopened shortly after midday.

British Transport Police said a 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

LU's chief operating officer Nick Brown said: "This was a horrible, unprovoked attack."

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
